Recollection....

Dictionary.com defines recollection as
the act of re-collecting or the state of being re-collected.

Last night we had our 2nd monthly recollection....

It focused on the Appreciation of the Holy Eucharist....

Hindi na raw kc nagsisimba ang mga dormers...

and kung magsisimba naman and reason ay " it's for attendance"....

sabi nga sa RE subject namin nung high school...

"the Eucharist is highest form of prayer..."

But in our current state here in the dorm... you can count inyour hands those who are really frequntly attending the mass...

Bro. Gil, who conducted our recollection left us with a question

"What is your concern at this point of time? Do you find God in that concerns?"

Kung tatanungin ako kung ano answer q dyan sa tanong n yn ay . . . ahmm..

i just keep it secret...

joke lng...kc sa point na to...

ang main concern is my studies and I slightly find Him in this...

in term of my attending the mass...

I can say na it's merely for attendance... but hindi p xa full undrstanding...
kung baga it's just in between...

Famous Paradoxes

Please try to answer this paradoxes...
Can you?!!...

Liar Paradox (Eubulid or Epimenides Paradox)

This is a well known paradox written by the great stoical logician Chrysippos. The poet, grammarian and critic Philetus of Cos was said to have died of exhaustion attempting to resolve it.
A Cretan sails to Greece and says to Greek men who stands upon the shore: "All Cretans are liars." Did he speak the truth or did he lie?

A week later, the Cretan sailed to Greece again and said: "All Cretans are liars and all I say is the truth." Although the Greeks ashore weren't aware of what he said the first time, they were truly puzzled.

If someone says about himself that he always lies, is this the truth or a lie?

Double Liar Paradox (Jourdain's paradox)

This version of a famous paradox was presented by English mathematician P. E. B. Jourdain in 1913.The following is written on opposite sides of a card:

Back side
THE SENTENCE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THIS CARD IS TRUE.

Face side
THE SENTENCE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THIS CARD IS FALSE.

Barber Paradox (Russell's Paradox)

Analogue paradox to the 'liar paradox' formulated by English logician, philosopher and mathematician Bertrand Russell. There was a barber in a village who promised to shave everybody that does not shave himself (or herself). Can the barber shave himself and keep the mentioned promise?

Lazy-bones Paradox

If destiny designed a master plan which defines everything that is to happen, isn't it useless, for example, to go to a doctor? If I am ill and it is my destiny to regain health, then I will regain health whether I visit a doctor or not. If it is my destiny to not regain my health, then seeing a doctor can't help me.How could you question the presented opinion?

My Favorite Sophisms

1. Crocodile Sophism

A slim crocodile living in the Nile took a child. His mother begged to have him back. The crocodile could not only talk, but was also a great sophist and stated, "If you guess what I will do with him, I will return him. However, if you don't guess his fate, I'll eat him." What statement should the mother make to save her child?

2. Is it possible to give what we don't have?
Sophist: "Yes, greedy man gives his cash with sorrow. However, he doesn't have the cash with sorrow, so he gives what he doesn't have."

3. What is better - eternal bliss or a simple bread?
What is better than eternal bliss? Nothing. But a slice of bread is better than nothing. So a slice of bread is better than eternal bliss.

A few sentences from life

Nobody goes to that restaurant; it's too crowded.
Don't go near the water 'til you have learned how to swim.
The man who wrote such a stupid sentence can not write at all.
If you get this message, call me, and if you don't get it, don't call.

Think about these

Let's say there is a bullet which can shoot through any barrier. Let's also say there is an absolutely bullet-proof armor which no object can penetrate. What will happen if such a bullet hits such an armor?

Can a man drown in the fountain of eternal life?

Your mission is not to accept the mission. Do you accept?

A girl goes into the past and kills her Grandmother. Since her Grandmother is dead, the girl was never born. If she were never born, she never killed her grandmother.

If the temperature this morning is 0 degrees and the Weather Channel says, "it will be twice as cold tomorrow", what will the temperature be?

Answer truthfully (yes or no) to the following question:
Will the next word you say be 'no'?

What happens if you are in a car going the speed of light and you turn the headlights on?

I conclude with this challenge:Let the God Almighty create a stone, which he can not pick up!

"You seem to be in some distress," said the kindly judge to the witness. "Is anything the matter?"
"Well, your Honour," said the witness, "I swore to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, but every time I try, some lawyer objects."

A new client had just come in to see a famous lawyer.
"Can you tell me how much you charge?", said the client.
"Of course", the lawyer replied, "I charge $200 to answer three questions!"
"Well that's a bit steep, isn't it?"
"Yes it is", said the lawyer, "And what's your third question?"

Thought of the Moment:

"The truly creative mind in any field is no more than this: A human creature born abnormally, inhumanly sensitive. To him... a touch is a blow, a sound is a noise, a misfortune is a tragedy, a joy is an ecstasy, a friend is a lover, a lover is a god, and failure is death. Add to this cruelly delicate organism the overpowering necessity to create, create, create -- so that without the creating of music or poetry or books or buildings or something of meaning, his very breath is cut off from him. He must create, must pour out creation. By some strange, unknown, inward urgency he is not really alive unless he is creating."

I NOT STUPID TOO

I Not Stupid Too is one of the most beautiful satirical comedy film that I ever seen because what they convey in the film is the real situation that happens in most families.
The part of the movie that I was able to relate with is the part where Chengcai is being hit and caned by his father, Mr. Lim, because of being expelled. This part really captured my emotion that I even shed tears because it also happened to me many times. Every time that I make mistakes, my father will always punish me by hitting me a “stick”. He will tell me to get a stick or a small branch of tree that I could withstand when he cane me. I know that it's my fault but sometimes I feel that it's over. There was a time that I really got hurt that I couldn't walk or sit well. I am just glad that now he already stop doing to me.

The significant events and lines that gave me lessons about parents' role is when the parents of Tom and Chengcai were called by the principal for the grave misconduct that they have done. The principal then told them, “Parents are the role model to their children. Bad family bred bad children.” This just tells that it's the parents responsibility to guide and discipline their children. What the parents do will greatly affect what kind of children their sons and daughters will be.
Parents, though so busy earning a living for them to give their children a better life, must always have time for their children for them to know what's happening to them. In the movie, the parents of Tom and Jerry are so busy with their jobs that don't have time for them and worst, they just communicate through “notes”. Jerry's parents no time for him led him to save money to buy one hour of his father's time for him to attend his concert and later led him to steal money for the canteen.

The part where Tom fixed his father's laptop and rushed to his office to give it to him but never received gratitude and worse, be scolded for not being in school. Parents must also appreciate what their children do for them, no matter how small it is because a simple “thank you” will make them happy and encourage to do it again.

Parents should also appreciate their children's achievements and stop comparing them to their own selves and setting much expectations for their children may think that whatever they do their parents would never be grateful to them. Like in the movie, when Tom received the award as the “best blogger”, his mother was not grateful about it and even said that there's nothing good with blogging.

The event that gave me lessons and insights about my own role as a son is the part where Mr. Lim bought a new “kiddie” bag for Chengcai but he didn't like it that led to their conflict and his father to be mad at him. As a son, I realized that we, children, must also appreciate every little thing that our parents do and give us for a simple “thank you” will already pay the efforts and money they had spent for us. Most of the time when my mother will give and buy me something, I will say that I not good and it's not what I want that why she won't buy me again something though she know I want it.

Another event was when Mr. Lim is already dying and he requested him to bring him the principal for him to thank her. Chengcai really followed his father pleading the principal to come with him. I realized that as a son we must always follow our parents for they won't let us down.
The event that gave me lessons about family relationship is when Mr. Steven Yeo treated his Tom in a dinner. As a family, it is important to have enough and quality time for the family to talk about their current situation so that there is a communication between parents and children. The starting lines of the movie: “When was the last time someone praised you? When was the last time you praised someone?” let us realize the importance of gratitude especially within the family to foster good relationship. Parents must always think positively not scolding their children for example due to low grades but encouraging them to do better the next time. They should also understand why their children are behaving in a different manner for it always has its roots.

I Not Stupid Too is really good film the really give the importance of quality time and communication within the family as a way to improve family relationship.

'Obama win should inspire Fil Ams to join US politics'

wow...inspired ang mga Pinoy...we should be looking for Fil-Am in the US Congress and Senate...
and maybe even White House...what a wonderful dream to be..

The strong showing of United States senator Barack Obama in the race to the White House should serve as an inspiration for Filipino Americans to start "throwing their hats in the ring" of US politics, a political blogger said Monday.

In an interview on Mornings@ANC, political blogger Dean Jorge Bocobo said that the win by Obama in the Democratic caucuses in Iowa last Thursday should be an example for Filipino Americans to start participating in US politics. "I think many people don't realize Barack Obama is not your typical black president -- he's not just black, he's black and white," said Bocobo, referring to Obama's Kenyan and American heritage.

Obama, a first-term US senator from Illinois, has a Kenyan father and an American mother."Barack Obama is actually closer to the immigrant tradition of American. He's like a second generation Filipino American. Barack Obama is closer to that type of politician," Bocobo said.Bocobo said that Obama's campaign focuses on issues that Americans want to know rather than making his race an issue, which makes it important for Filipino Americans."We have to be thrilled with something like this.

Some Filipino right there now could be the next Barack Obama. We have the talent, we have the kind of people who could be [the next] Barack Obama," Bocobo said."Every successful president harkens back to his immigrant routes. What that meant to be able to come to America and become president. We in the Philippines need to look at these candidates in terms of what it does for us," he added."It should serve as an inspiration for our own [Filipino Americans] there. One day, we will lead that country too," Bocobo said.

Interesting aspects of World's 2nd richest man--Warren Buffet

His the humblest billionaire I've ever known....hope all bilionaire be like him...
aasenso ang world...hehehe..

"I am careful not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence, I can reach for; perfection is God's Business"

There was a one hour interview on CNBC with Warren Buffet, the second richest man who has donated $31 billion to charity. Here are some very interesting aspects of his life:

1. He bought his first share at age 11 and he now regrets that he started too late!

2. He bought a small farm at age 14 with savings from delivering newspapers.

3. He still lives in the same small 3-bedroom house in mid-town Omaha , that he bought after he got married 50 years ago. He says that he has everything he needs in that house. His house does not have a wall or a fence.

4. He drives his own car everywhere and does not have a driver or security people around him.

5. He never travels by private jet, although he owns the world's largest private jet company.

6. His company, Berkshire Hathaway, owns 63 companies. He writes only one letter each year to the CEOs of these companies, giving them goals for the year. He never holds meetings or calls them on a regular basis. He has given his CEO's only two rules.
Rule number 1: do not lose any of your shareholder's money.
Rule number 2: Do not forget rule number 1.

7. He does not socialize with the high society crowd. His past time after he gets home is to make himself some pop corn and watch
television.

8. Bill Gates, the world's richest man met him for the first time only 5 years ago. Bill Gates did not think he had anything in common with Warren Buffet. So he had scheduled his meeting only for half hour. But when Gates met him, the meeting lasted for ten hours and Bill Gates became a devotee of Warren Buffet.

9. Warren Buffet does not carry a cell phone, nor has a computer on his desk. His advice to young people:
"Stay away from credit cards and invest in yourself and Remember:
A. Money doesn't create man; it is the man who created money.
B. Live your life as simple as you are.
C. Don't do what others say, just listen to them, but do what you feel good.
D. Don't go for brand name; just wear those things in which u feel comfortable.
E. Don't waste your money on unnecessary things; just spend on those who really are in need.
F. After all it's your life so why give chance to others to rule your life

God bless you all

The film starts by pondering the question: "When was the last time someone praised you?" and introducing the main characters: Tom Yeo (played by Shawn Lee), a prolific teenage blogger; Jerry Yeo (Ashley Leong), Tom's innocent, inquisitive 8-year-old brother; and their friend, Lim Chengcai (Joshua Ang), who has inherited the fighting skills of his father, an ex-convict.

Jerry is given the lead role in his school's concert. During a rehearsal, several of his classmates play a prank on him, tricking him into thinking that he got his classmate Xiaoxi pregnant. He repeatedly tries in vain to find out how pregnancy occurs, going so far as to ask a fat man how he got "pregnant". After hearing an old wives' tale that eating pineapples may cause a miscarriage, Jerry forces Xiaoxi to eat pineapples. Xiaoxi gets a severe stomachache, and when Jerry takes her to the clinic, he is informed of how pregnancy actually comes about.

Mr Fu, the Chinese teacher of Tom and Chengcai's class, scolds his pupils for failing to complete his homework, and all of them leave the classroom. A younger teacher, Mr Hao, advises Mr Fu that he needs to "focus on their talents and not their flaws". On the way to school, Tom accidentally bumps into two gangsters, who call their friends to beat him up. Chengcai intervenes, fights the gangsters and saves Tom. The principal decides to punish both of them "according to the law".

While tutoring his children, Mr. Yeo tells Jerry that people will pay $500 for an hour of his time. Jerry's teacher encourages the boy to ask his parents to watch his concert, and later Jerry starts saving, apparently to buy Pokemon cards. Mr Yeo's computer is infected by a virus and he has a presentation due the next day. Tom fixes the computer and rushes to his father's office to deliver the computer to him, but Mr Yeo scolds Tom for not being in school.

During a check for mobile phones, Tom is caught possessing a pornographic VCD. Mr Fu confiscates it, but Chengcai insults Mr Fu and provokes the teacher into slapping him. This leads to an altercation where Tom tries to get the VCD back. The principal decides to expel Chengcai and subject Tom to public caning. A video of the incident is leaked out, sparking a national debate on corporal punishment.

Mr Fu resigns, but the school refuses to honour his resignation. Mr Lim begs the principal to give Chengcai another chance, but the principal insists on "going according to the law". Instead, she decides to recommend Chengcai to other schools, all of which reject him. The gangsters Chengcai fought invite Tom and Chengcai to join their gang; Tom and Chengcai accept the offer.
Unable to raise $500, Jerry resorts to selling all his Pokemon cards and, finally, stealing. After he is caught, a furious Mr Yeo canes the boy, but mellows when Jerry explains that he is saving not to buy Pokemon cards, but to "buy" an hour of Mr Yeo's time. Mr and Mrs Yeo read Tom's blog and realise that they have failed to appreciate and communicate with Tom.
Due to peer pressure from the other gang members, Tom and Chengcai shoplift an iPod. They are caught by two fake police officers who demand they pay $2000 within two days or be arrested.

In an attempt to raise $2000, Tom and Chengcai rob an old lady of her necklace; however, regretting their action, they later decide to return it to her. Despite the boys' remorse, the woman's friends insist on calling the police. Tom and Chengcai try to escape, and in the ensuing struggle, Tom's phone falls out of his pocket. A button on the phone is accidentally pressed when it hits the ground, sending a call to Mr Yeo, who is doing a presentation on 3G phones to Chinese government officials, for a contract worth $3 million.

Against the wishes of his boss, Mr Yeo rushes off after receiving Tom's call, and is fired. Mr Yeo apologises to the old lady for Tom's actions, and pleads for her to give his son a chance. When the police arrive, the old lady tells them that she sent a prank call. Two days later, Tom and Mr Yeo meet the fake police officers, and Mr Yeo gives them $2000. Once the fake police officers realise that they have been given hell money, they are arrested by real police officers who have been waiting in ambush for them. Mr Yeo's company is awarded the contract, and he is promoted to COO.
Trying to escape, Chengcai bumps into several gangsters who attack him. Mr. Lim happens to be in the vicinity, and is severely injured when he tries to protect his son. He is taken to the hospital in critical condition. Mr Lim's dying wish is to see his son back in school, but the principal does not allow Chengcai to return. The boy asks her to lie to his father instead, telling him his son has been re-admitted, in order to fulfil Mr Lim's dying wish; the principal initially refuses to do so but eventually gives in.
Before his death, Mr Lim tells his son “Chengcai, if you want to fight, aim to be an international champion. I love you.” Touched by Mr Lim's last words, the principal allows Chengcai to return to school. Jerry is delighted that his parents are watching his concert, and as the credits roll, he summarises the lessons of the movie.
